- Fluoresces pale blue under a longwave UV light (blacklight)
- Calcium chloride has been added to increase the solubility of the Quinine sulfate. Unfortunately, this does decrease its fluorescent properties.
- This is a 0.5% aqueous solution (max saturation)
Also known as quinine sulfate, this aqueous solution will fluoresce a pale white-blue color when exposed to UV light in a dark room. It is typically used in photochemistry as a common fluorescent standard, as it has a relatively constant and well known fluorescence quantum yield. It's UV absorption peaks at approximately 350nm with UVA, and has a fluorescent emission that peaks at 450nm.
