I live in the UK where finding these types of items is next to impossible. I can't tell you how pleased I was to find that quality reliable products would ship these fermentation lids to me. Not only did they arrive much sooner than I had anticipated, the packaging left them safe and secure on their long journey. I have been using them for over a month now with fantastic results. They are easy to clean and fit securely on a standard or wide mouth kilner jar. Up till now I've been using a 5 litre crock to ferment. These lids changed the way I do it. They allow for smaller batches, more experimentation and a staggered supply of preserved goodness. Buy these, I've been very happy with them and I hope you will be too.
Great product... Great cost... and super easy to use... wash lid, seal & air lock in warm soapy water when you first get it and let it dry... put back together making sure the seal is properly secured in place in the lid
Just make a fresh batch of -Hotsauce mash -sauerkraut w/carrots -sauerkraut w/carrots red cabbage garlic chill black papper

prep your ferment jar... fill just up to the bend (about 1 1/4" down from rim from top of jar) place Retaining cap on making sure liquid doesn't go up the sides so there's room for liquid expansion as it ferments... of it does I just poor out some of the liquid. Place lid on and tighten lid just snug (don't over tighten) the oring is there for a reason... place on air lock...fill halfway up with water...place airlock cap back on and your done!!!!!! So Easy!!!! Just love it... and now because of this system your ferments take...
This is the best deal for these airlocks, and it has all you need to ferment in wide mouth canning jars. Appropriate sizes are 24oz, quart, half gallon. I never tried a pint jar. So you can make smaller batches when beginning, or experimenting.
Unfortunately I gave some away, so here I am again, buying more. You know, if you give 2 sets each to a sister and two friends, they're all gone. Should have done the math sooner.
I looked at the other types of airlocks, particularly the ones that are basically just a one-way valve. I considered them; they are simpler, but this type couldn't be called anything but simple also. Just more parts. Compact, tho.
The reason I stayed with these is that the other one-way-valve type lets juices overflow, so you have to keep them in a bowl or something. A: the space. B: the mess. C: no longer a one-piece deal if you have to set the jar in another container.
