Additional Information

Guitar amps sound best when turned up LOUD! That is when we really start to hear all the richest harmonic overtones and feel the most dynamic response from the power tubes but thats alwayys TOO loud so we must compromise and turn down, losing that sweet tone...well, compromise no more, Carl's Custom Guitar's Speaker Soak allows you to dial in your favorite full volume tones and then attenuate the volume (without losing that great tone!) before it hits the speakers, all the way down to safe "bedroom" volumes if need be, simply insert this device between your amplifier's speaker output and the speaker itself (out from amp's speaker output into IN on the Speaker Soak, OUT from Speaker Soak to the speaker, using speaker cables) turn the Speaker Soak up all the way, dial in your favorite full volume sound and then rolllllllll back the volume on the Speaker Soak, preserving all that rich tone at lower volumes! Some technical notes here: it is quite normal for this device to get warm, basically the more volume you are attenuating the warmer it will be so just give it a little breathing room on top of your amp or whatnot. It should never get HOT. Do not use this device on amps over 50 watts and be SURE you match ohm rating of your Speaker Soak with that of your amp's output (in other words if your amps speaker output is 8 ohm, get the 8 ohm Speaker Soak, if its 16 get the 16). As long as your amp has no pre-existing problems and this device is used properly it will not harm your amp or shorten tube life any more than if you were running your amp turned up loud. I can not be help responsible if you use this on an amp over 50 watts or with a speaker load mismatch, the last thing I want is anyone harming a device I worked hard to build and/or something they paid their own hard earned money for, so please make sure you use it responsibly! Unlock a whole new world of tones, I look forward to doing business with you, thank you -Carl

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

All I have to say is Buyer Beware! I ordered a Speaker Soak in June. It arrived - was plugged in and began to smoke! When I unplugged it I heard something rattling around. I contacted Carl-he apologized for the problem-said he would replace it. Well after 3+ months and a dozen emails to him(lots of excuses etc...) I still have not received a replacement. At this point I give up-guess I'm going to lose my 39 dollars. It seems like a super poor business model though because if I can get a couple of people to question the product and and the source I will be losing less money than Carl will be. Hmmmmmmmmmmm?
All the other reviews must be Carl's friends because I plugged it into my Deluxe Reverb and it sounds HORRIBLE. It works like it says, but the degradation in sound quality is not worth the use of it. I've owned a Hot Plate and Brakelite before and they are 1000% better, albeit a lot more expensive. If you want something to mess around with in your basement, this is fine, but I'd never record or play out with it. If you really want to crank up your quality tube amp then get a quality attenuator from Hot Plate, Dr. Z or Bad Cat. The Weber is also pretty good, but not as good as the higher priced ones.
I am using this on my ~15 watt 5E3 , and can now crank it up with out wilting the plants. This replaced a static attenuator that i build my self, and I love the ability to turn the knob and change the loudness.

Good product, cheaper than I could make it myself.
