A Geological and Archaeological Study of the Solar Gnomons at the V Bar V Heritage Site: Verde Valley Archaeology Center Occasional Paper No. 1
The V Bar V Heritage Site in the Coconino National Forest near Sedona, Arizona, contains a 12-month calendar created by the rock art that is touched by light/shadow effects produced by two boulders. This study examined the nature of the projecting rock gnomons that cast shadows onto the solar calendar to determine to what extent the rock positions were natural and understand to what extent they had been manipulated by human activity.
