A deadly secret in a suitcase full of stolen gold leads to a series of unexplainable murders while the FBI hunts for a top foreign killer spy. The story starts during the final days of the WW2. Young Ben searches an abandoned coal mine tunnel for stolen guns the soldiers hid inside. Unfortunately, he meets an AWOL foreign Army officer on the run. The officer is involved in the theft of a large amount of gold from one of his superiors and had it hidden in the same tunnel. Years later, in Minnesota, Ben’s father is gunned down. The FBI Special Agent Miriam Dokes and Agent Book are assigned to the case which includes the torture and murder of his father’s doctor friend, Goulbis. From then on, death stalks Ben and all other participants in the gold heist. The FBI manager, Bob Sawyer, has a hunch there's something much more valuable than the stolen gold. In order to find the answers, Ben, the principal character, travels back to Switzerland, to a bank where the gold is hidden. But the murders continue. Will the FBI find the reason for so many deaths? Nemesis is the second part of A Suitcase Mystery, its denouement.

Latvia, as World War II came to a final, bloody end, was a place where life and death were balanced on a razor's edge. The Nazis, their dreams of world domination ended, were fighting a desperate rear guard action as the Soviet Army pushed westward but that did not mean the Latvians were going to live in peace once the Germans left. The reason: Their Russian "liberators" were flooding into the country and they had no intention of leaving. In this deadly mix there were also Latvians who, unwilling to trade one set of heavy handed foreign overlords for another, wanted an independent nation and weren't afraid to fight for it. Dangerous times, especially for a young man with a sense of adventure and perhaps more curiosity than was healthy. Ben Kalninsh was just such a young man and one day when he was out riding on his bicycle he saw some Russian soldiers hide something in an old mine shaft. Little did he know that witnessing that seemingly harmless event would lead to tragedy later in...
Ben, a geeky fourteen year old boy, is too inquisative for his own good. He lives in Latvia during WWII and happens to see Soviet soldiers hiding suitcases in a coal mine. He ventures inside and is caught by a Soviet agent, who decides to take the gold for himself. Without Ben's knowledge, Ben's father gets involved and helps the agent flee with his gold. Ben grows up and becomes a boxer. He even defeats the champion. He doesn't want to be the skinny kid anymore, who is attacked by the bullies. He is now living in Minnesota with his parents and two brothers. They survive poverty and hard times, and Ben now has all the money he has ever wanted. But his past re-visits him. His father and his father's friend are murdered. The FBI become involved. Agents Dokes and Book take the families of the slain men into custody. They figure out that their murders have to do with WWII and Latvia, and a Russian bank that had gold stolen. FBI agent in charge, Sawyer, knows that there is much...
Here we have a murder mystery packed with many clues in the dialogue and more clues hidden in a suitcase. But is there more than one suitcase? We see not one suitcase, not two suitcases, but three cases as well as a special briefcase. Did Jack the Ripper leave behind an evil relative? The murder mystery gradually unfolds, to a large degree, through an investigative type of dialogue and a mystery type of narrative. It almost has the feel of a James Bond mission, but the killer is unknown. It almost has a dialogue-driven style like Law & Order, but there is no courtroom. Follow the various conversations, interrogations, and suitcases, and you will find several murders. Mature content: language. For ages 18 and up.
With a well-rounded number of characters, several murders, and a suitcase full of mystery, this book is packed with an in depth tale of a good old fashioned murder mystery.
