Learning the fundamentals of accounting is like learning a new language. Becoming "literate" in accounting doesn't take quite as long as learning Russian, Spanish, or Chinese, but the advantages are indeed comparable.
It's safe to say that many people fear numbers - "I was terrible at math in school!" - so the word "accounting" calls up, for many, memories of days spent struggling over high school algebra. They prefer to leave the accounting to those who hang a CPA shingle outside their door, confident that the professionals will do a much better job of managing their money.
But the fact remains that everyone should have a little accounting knowledge and, truly, the math involved isn't all that difficult. Nonetheless, knowing the basics, from how to balance your checkbook to learning to keep good financial records for tax purposes, can go a long way, whether you're a small business owner, investor, manager, lender, or just in charge of the household finances.
Having a clear knowledge of your business's financial life is important. No one should be in the dark about their overall financial picture. That's a disaster waiting to happen. However, with a perfunctory knowledge of basic accounting principles, including assets and liabilities, creating financial statements, budgeting, and more, you'll be on the road to healthier relationship with your money.

While it has some good points and good references in the back I don't think that this will be your last book to help you run your small business. Accounting unfortunately is not anything you could cover in a book with less than 50 pages. There are just so many variables and nuances that will differ from business to business. The book has lots of good information if you are not familiar with different accounting processes. In chapter one, he discusses the importance of assets, liability and equity. Chapter two discusses business transactions and the accounting cycle. In chapter 3 discusses financial statements. In this chapter you get a brief discussion on the different types of financial statements. In chapter 4 discusses Fraud and Ethics when you are into accounting. Chapter 5 is probably the most important of all the chapters to me. This chapter has so much inforamtion about what is called the GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). The terms discussed are the Four...
Being a CPA I understand the importance understanding accounting is to the success of most small business. I have heard of stories that business owners were so proud of how much they sold of there most popular product, but could understand why they weren't making as much money as they thought. Turns out when the product was reviewed by another professional considering all the costs that went into making it the business was actually losing money on their must popular product :(
This book provides the basic small business owners should understand to manage their company. Accounting isn't something to be intimidated, by it something that once learn, can help your business expand and grow into new markets. The book doesn't involve any of the complexities of accounting that could confuse individuals. Which is good since the complexity is not needed at a small business level.
Although I am a CPA I do recommend accounting books to my friends who currently cant...
I ordered and quickly received the Accounting: For Small Businesses QuickStart Guide - Understanding Accounting For Your Sole Proprietorship, Startup, & LLC. This Quickstart Guide was mailed in a cardboard box with other items I ordered and was delivered at my front door. This book was not package, but looks exactly the same as the picture on the Amazon page. When I saw this book I wanted the book to read and learn about learning about accounting for my LLC. This book is an easy read and you can tell because I read this in a few hours. This is a good book to learn a few things, but DO NOT think you will learn everything about accounting and small businesses in a 50 page book. It sets a good base for those that is going into this brand new or little accounting knowledge. I believe it is always good to refresh on things during life and this book is a good keep and/or share for other friends. This book is very Informative to provide you BASIC knowledge of accounting, rules to...
