For reference of my experience, I've been using an LG Flatron W3000H-BN for the last 5 years (2560x1600, IPS panel, 5ms). Specs wise, this Acer monitor is basically the same thing with a larger resolution. Before that (and still today) I used a Samsung SyncMaster 204T (1600x1200) that I picked up back around 03-05.
So, why did I choose to go 4k and how did I end up on this monitor? Well, my LG monitor broke about 24 hours ago and I'm a software engineer by day, so replacing it as soon as possible was pretty crucial. When I'm traveling, I use a Chromebook Pixel that I run Linux on at its native resolution (2560x1700 -- on a 12.85" screen, people can't believe I can read it just fine)... so, needless to say, I really value large resolutions.
After looking through most of the 4k monitors in the sub $600 range, I was extremely wary of blindly ordering a TN panel and even...
Have three of these connected to a pair of R9-270's crossfire 1-DP, 2-DVI. Very clear picture. Response time is good for gaming on the DP connected monitor, haven't tried game that stretches all 3 yet. I can game on one monitor, watch Netflix 2nd monitor-waiting to respawn, chat on the 3rd monitor Running at max resolution. Of course have windows scaling set at 200% so to be able to read. Some apps do not scale well, but even with the very small print, easier to read than my old 1920x1200 monitors.
I took a risk with this monitor and really like it! It looks great on games and can fit a TON of code on the screen at once. The only problem is you'll need a second screen if you're on Windows....it doesn't scale things very well at all, and some things are unreadable at this resolution. I had to keep my other monitors for this reason, though that's not necessarily a bad thing.
I'd recommend this without hesitation and may buy another.
