First entering RAF service in 1952, the De Havilland Vampire T.11 trainer was the final UK variant of Britainâ€™s second operational jet fighter and the first advanced jet trainer to adopt a side-by-side seating configuration. Unusually, the forward section of the fuselage was constructed of plywood, adopting manufacturing techniques perfected on the famous wartime Mosquito.
