I make my own butter and needed a mold I could rely on. I found that silicone molds are easy to clean and work well. This followed that thinking and really allowed me to mold my butter the way I needed. The rectangles are smaller than normal butter bricks. However, I did not mind because of how many I can make at one time in this. I would buy this product again.
although I am a soap maker (cold process) I bought this specifically for making ice for use in long, tall glasses.
it works great for making ice BECAUSE it is flimsier silicone. but I'd have to say that i'd never use it for soap, because there is very little support, and I doubt I'd use it for chocolates or baking either.
Con: Flimsy enough that you will have to support this in the freezer by placing it on a piece of cardboard or a tray. Pros: The mold is so flexible that the cubes come out *super* easily and the size is absolutely perfect for tall glasses. (the size is clearly listed in the description, so no excuses as to "I didn't know it would be so small" are justified - just use a ruler and you'll figure it out.)
This mold works great for homemade butter / margarine. The mold makes sticks of butter that are 1/4 cup, rather than standard 1/2 cup butter sticks. I was happy to find that they corresponded to a useful measurement. I have a photos on making vegan butter with the mold on my blog, but I don't think I can link it here.
