Great trail runners! I had formerly tried the Altra Olympus (after I broke a bone in my foot) and while I appreciated the wide toe box, the heel was equally wide and my heel sloshed around. This made them feel a bit unstable going downhill. My other issue was the traction, which was pretty minimal. But Altra seems to have made the heel the Lone Peak 2.5 narrower, and the traction is great. I also feel there is plenty of cushioning, but not enough so that my foot feels clunky (I'm not a fan of overly cushioned shoes--I like moderate cushioning). I love these!
The Lone Peak 2.5 is my 4th pair of Altras (I also have the Superior, The Torin, and Lone Peak Polartec 2.0) and I must say these are the most comfortable athletic shoes I've ever bought! However, I only use them for walking at work and working out in the gym. I love the width and the cushioning is not too high like the Olympus - which I felt was too unnatural. If you are a runner who pronates I can see where the would be a lack of arch support in the inside of the shoe. I have a low arch and supinate, so this is not an issue for me. One of my favorite parts of the shoe is the padded tongue protrudes past the instep for added comfort. I can't wear shoes with wimpy tongues or integrated tongues like on some minimalist shoes. I had trouble with the laces coming untied so I bought the EZLaces and that solved the problem. I have the Desert Sunflower color which is bright like an Orange Creamsicle! I ordered a half size up and they fit perfectly. I am contemplating buying another pair of...
I absolutely love the Lone Peak 2.5. I really like the zero drop feature and they are super comfortable. My definite "go to" shoe when I am going to walk around a lot or go hiking. The shoes are amazingly lightweight and perfect for traveling with or backpacking with. The mesh uppers are perfect for hiking as they dry quickly and are very airy. My only complaint on my shoe is that the Altra logo started peeling off of both of my shoes weeks after wearing them. Now, both of my shoes lost their logos (1.5 months after purchase). I contacted Altra and since I ordered through Amazon they could not assist me. I tried contacting the seller (Amazon) and I am now outside the return date. This is only a cosmetic issue, but sad that the logo is what is coming off of their shoe...not great marketing lol! The rest of the shoes are durable and hopefully will hold up longer than that of their logos. Overall, I will look into purchasing other Altra shoes in the future as these...
