This here is the starting line for the ALWAYS UNTIL NEVER series. And yours truly, Max Redford, is bringing the smokes and whiskey to this good ol’ Texas block party. Yeah, we gonna be good ol’ neighbors for a bit,so pull up a chair. The folks and their stories that you’re gonna find in the Wolfe Brothers series aren’t your usual most upstanding, reputable, or even nice guys — or gals. If you’re looking for sweet and wholesome romance with girls next door and savvy gents, well then . . . you’re in the wrong neighborhood. But if y'all are into realistic folks who’ve endured hardship and keep on living by their own principles and their own family values, then you’re gonna fit right in ‘round this town. We got scars on our flesh and scars on our hearts. Our clothes ain’t designer and we always know the faces of the people at Walmart. Some got their fake friends and their phony grins, but we’re as real as it gets and that’s alright with us. We’ve been abused and we’ve abused — We’ve fallen and we’ve knocked down — We’ve swore to God and we’ve screamed at the Devil — The sex is whiskey-laced. Lovers’ quarrels’ end in ecstasy and four-lettered words. We’re the folks who love our dogs, our left-handed cigarettes, and tattoos. All our men are alphas and all our women are GRITS. We say yes sir, and we bow our heads, and salute our men in uniform — and if that ain’t you then we’ll still serve you up some good ol’ Texas hospitality. The Always Until Never (Volume 1 of the Wolfe Brothers Series) is a gritty, sweeping romance and family saga that deals with real life’s hardships including: alcoholism, rape, effects of child abuse and bullying, psychological instabilities, vigilantism, family unity, revenge, political corruption, condemnation, redemption and more.

It's hard to even know where to start with this. Maggie, gang-raped as a teenager, was so physically traumatized by it that she cannot have children, and yet her own parents somehow didn't know what happened, although at one point, it said they did, but didn't know who did it. She becomes a slut because apparently she believes rape victims are sluts.
Cam, the so-called hero of the book, also comes from a traumatized childhood. He killed his own father and put his mom in a coma during a sleep-rage incident, and yet at some point, his mother comes up missing or something, and the coma wasn't mentioned again.
There is no real rhyme or reason in this book. It is all over the place. Nothing holds together. Cam is abusive to his brothers and to his lover Maggie. He beats on his brothers, killed his dad, killed another man later in the book, tells Maggie to "shut your trap" over and over again, and yet she somehow thinks he's the best thing that's ever happened...
I learned about this book from Good Reads with the free offers. This one sounded interesting and I was having to wait for another book. Now I want the rest!!!!!!
It did not take me long to be hooked and having difficulty putting the book down. When I did I could not stop thinking about it and back into my hands it would go. Needless to say sleep was interrupted. Now I already have issues with sleep but this just made passing the time a bit easier and gave me a good excuse....YAY a twofer!!!
But seriously, rape is a serious crime and one that is difficult for a woman to overcome. The worst I hear is "she was asking for it," or "she was saying no but her eyes said yes." I will never understand why society puts the victim on trial. As I read through the book and learned more about Maggie I understood her actions. She was trying to find a way to cope. When you are made to feel like a slut then you might as well be one....right?" Lita...
Okay to start, I'll list the things that I loved about this book. The fact that it was written so well that even though many characters were introduced early on, I was still able to keep up and follow right along was a huge plus for me. I loved how believable the characters were and how human they were with raw emotions and fears and honesty. None of that too good to be true type heroism in this book. Just raw feelings and intensity. I loved how each character had their own battles to fight, but yet it was written so well that you kept up with each characters struggle. I loved the "Always" part of the book. The name couldn't be more fitting. Family bonds that are unbreakable and will last always despite not being blood was very refreshing and heart warming. Which led me to love that Cam's family didn't give up on him even when he wanted them to and had given up on himself. I loved the relationship that Cam and Jags had with their grandfather and the level of devotion it...
