I'm originally from Indiana so picked up this book to get a fairly complete list of native species. This is a great reference for anyone who enjoys herping within the state. I have found at least one species that was listed as possibly existing in Indiana, and I think there are some species that have dwindled due to the affects of farming and factories on local streams, etc. Unfortunately most of the state except for the southern part is farm land and farmers are more interested in making a buck than protecting the environment which has had an adverse affect on wildlife. I think the southern part of Indiana will remain more accurate with this book as time progresses than the remainder of the state.
Dr. Minton's 2001 full-color update of his landmark 1972 "Amphibians and Reptiles of Indiana," is excellent. Not only does it contain 25+ years of extra data from many other sources in the meantime, it also shows in the color photos the exact identity of the various species, if that can ever be done completely.

For anyone who is interested in any branch of herpetology, biology, zoology and especially for those who have searched for or studied any of the Indiana species and habitats, this book is for you as a "must-see" guide.

Dr. Minton was a major help to me in my two federally-and-state-funded range-wide surveys of the Kirtland's and the copperbelly water snakes.

He will be and is much admired and missed as a major contributor to Indiana's Natural Heritage.

R.I.P, Dear Sherman.
