Few people alive today know much about World War II unless they've seen some movies like Private Ryan, and you have to know some history to get anything out of them. This isn't about video games, kids. It was real. The odds of losing WW II were very high until the Battle of Midway -- and the entire Victory at Sea series tells the story from the Navy's (US and Allied) perspective. I watched these shows when they first came out in the middle 1950s. Later I bought them on VHS tape so I could watch them again at my leisure
I was in the First Marine Division, but not during WW II, and the lore of the Marines in the Pacific is deeply embedded in my psyche. The music, the commentary, and the story are great. .
I watched Victory At Sea with my dad over 50 years ago and I was happy to find all the chapters at AMAZON. So far I watched parts 1 to 4 and parts 5 to 8. I find the use of films that were taken as history unfolded to be much more accurate and entertaining. I plan to watch all the chapters.
