I've been wearing Arc'teryx Bastion pants for years now. As with most things Arc'teryx, they are made with high quality materials and feature high quality construction. The design is smart. They move well. The pockets are a bit tight against the leg, but that could be more about my anatomy than the pants. I like to wear these a little bit longer, as the tend to ride up around my boots a bit when sized similarly to other pants. These tend to last a long time. At one point, I wore a single pair of Bastions for 2.5 years with almost no other pants in my rotation. They eventually wear out on the bottom cuffs and in the crotch, but they stand up to some abuse. Light-weight, comfortable, but durable.
A breathable, very moisture resistant and easily drying light pair of pants. I've tried the Columbia, Patagonia and REI offerings and several other brands and this one always came out as the best-fitting, best-feeling pair of pants. They are super comfortable, have the right pockets in the right places and work very well. They're pretty fashionable too - not a total hiking pant that doesn't work without being in nature.
The belt loops can fit a bit tight, height-wise: I found that very wide belts can be a bit tight in them, but they work.
I'm 5'6", 160 lbs. with a 30 waist and 30.5 inch inseam. Nice and roomy in the seat and thighs, but not baggy. Tight in the waist and hips though, which I feel whenever I bend over. The rise is standard, but the crotch is pretty high. This means that these pants will sit fairly high on your waist, while fitting close to your dingleberries. Inseam feels shorter than stated though, because of how they sit. The fabric is soft, not very stretchy, and somewhat breathable. I wouldn't call it a very rugged material though, since I've already poked a hole on the inside ankle where I caught it on a fallen tree. Overall, a nice 3-season hiking pant.
Note: the picture for the gunmetal version is NOT the Bastion pant. See the other colours for a more accurate representation.
