Banana Log Part 2, Mules and Muggers: Dominican Republic to Virgin Islands

This is the second part of the sail of a lifetime through the Caribbean starting with a three-day climb to the icy peak of the Caribbean’s highest mountain. After being flushed down in a torrent and being saved from hypothermia in a small mountain farm the cruising adventure continued in several night sails along the rocky shore of the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Among the less enjoyable events was being mugged in a dark alley in St. Thomas, but my mate’s million dollar land purchase was worth the visit of St. John, although it probably would never become effective. The sailing became rougher, a race against time, always tacking against strong trade winds, interrupted by powerful tropical waves, the first messengers of the approaching hurricane season.
