While the word might conjure up images of saucy pastas and cheesy pizza, Basil essential oil has an extensive range of uses beyond the palette. Italians use Basil to inspire romance and affection. In Africa, where it's used more medicinally, many people use the plant's leaves to relieve water retention, high blood pressure, fevers, coughs and digestive system problems. Fresh and sweet, Basil's aroma is very similar to that of traditional Italian cooking. Many people use it as a digestive aid and to provide relief to aching or cramping muscles. Adding a few droplets to our Lavender oil and softly inhaling the blend can help ease the pain and stress of a headache. Native to Africa and Asia, Basil essential oil is derived through a steam distillation process. The bushy plant grows to a height of about 2 feet and has white, blue or purple flowers. There are nearly 150 varieties of basil and our offering is a Sweet Basil linalol chemotype. I purchased basil essential oil after hearing that it has anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing properties. After an intense work out session, I mix the basil essential oil with aloe vera gel and apply to over-worked muscles to prevent major soreness. The invigorating smell also combats that after work-out brain fatigue. I highly recommend this for anyone who has too many complaints about being too sore and listless after workouts.
I gave this four stars for a couple of reasons. The great thing about this product, is that after the bitter strong scent, the basil-ee smell that most people love will linger in your nose afterwards. Hence this oil doesn't have a great first impression, but give it a chance. I do love it. True, it was because I was expecting the smell that one gets when they cut fresh basil leaves when preparing a delicious meal in the kitchen. You know, the wafty much sweeter smell.
So be prepared for a different impression. If you want that kind of sweet, light smell right from the bottle, it's not gonna happen in this one-not at first at least. Using just a LITTLE will give that kitcheny note you all probably desire, like me!
ps packaging and ontime delivery was great once again. This is my second go around ordering from Edens Garden. I recommend!
pps my favorites so far (herb-type wise) are basil, rosemary and tea tree. :) Perhaps they would make a great combo...
My Restless Leg Syndrome became severe earlier this year, and I did some research on essential oils. Unable to find what I needed locally, I turned to Amazon. I am not a medical professional, but I had very good results by mixing a few drops of Basil essential oil with a few drops of Marojam essential oil in a base of Sweet Almond oil and massaging the mixture into my legs and feet nightly. Now I use it occasionally, but my muscle spasms are much better. Thank you, Eden's Garden!
