- Octagonal shape with fluted ends provides more turbulence than a non-fluted octagonal stir bar and can be used with containers with curved bottoms
- Teflon (PTFE) casing is chemically inert, can be used with corrosive chemicals, and helps reduce friction and wear while spinning
- Spins on the bottom of the container to disperse sediment and air bubbles
- Internal magnet made from samarium cobalt provides stronger magnetic attraction in viscous solutions and at high speeds than a magnet made from an alloy of alnico V
- Green color for quick identification
