With blood and tears, Chet Byrnes built a life in Texas, only to have it shattered by an ill-fated cattle drive and two deadly family feuds. Spurned by the woman he loves, Chet sets off for new territory. The journey won't come cheap.
And Ready For Any Fight That Comes.
Chet leads the Byrnes family across New Mexico into a harsh, haunting land. His long lost brother Cagle, after 15 years living among the Comanche, reappears. So does the family's blackest black sheep. Then, amidst old grudges and new battles, Chet picks up the trail of a killer he desperately wants to bring to justice. The reward is a hearty welcome to Arizona. The risk: dying before he can meet the one woman who'd make it all worthwhile. . .

If I had known Chet Byrnes, I would have fallen in love with him immediately! Such is the wonderful way this character is written. I'm new to the Dusty Richards fan club, but I'll gladly be in this club for a good long while. This series is one of my very favorite's and I'm only on the fourth book, so I still have one to go I believe! Yay for that, because I love this family and everything they stand for. Its such a well written series that I almost want to stop so I can savor it... but I simply can't stop! I will be reading any of Dusty Richard's books I can get my hands on, but Chet will forever be my personal favorite. Don't hesitate to read these, they're wonderful!
I do love me some good western story lines and Me. Richards has hit it home with this the Byrnes Family Ranch series.
Not over the top with a real feel for what it was like making a go of a family ranch during the 1870s in TX and AZ. It has all you could want in a story and it's delivered with style and flows very well. I am currently on the 3rd book in the series now and it is just a continuation of the great story of the Byrnes Family Ranch.
Try it....you'll like it!
I enjoyed the book, as I have everthing I have read by this author. But one glaring historical inaccuracy set off a clanging bell in my head, that detracted from my enjoyment. Chet, while tracking outlaws threatens one of them with Alcatraz. He tells his wife that she should remember what she has said to him while she is taking the boat out to visit him. The book is set in frontier Arizonia and Texas. Alcatraz was not used as a federal prison until 1933.
If you can overlook this it is a fast paced action filled adventure.
