The bamboo pen, also known as a "reed" pen, is one of the most ancient writing and drawing instruments. It is a dip pen made of bamboo that yields an emotive line of great variety and power. Many famous and expressive drawings by Picasso, Van Gogh, and Matisse were done with reed pens and these type of pens have always been popular with professional illustrators and designers. The Bill Buchman "Zen" Pens are different from the reed pens generally available to the public in that they are truly a professional quality art instrument. Although these dip pens are made to be used primarily with Sumi ink, India ink, and various kinds of calligraphy inks, they can in fact be used with any fluid media.
