I first read The Heaven Rise. Really enjoying this book I decided to start back in the beginning and read Mr. Rice's books. Not sure how I had missed him all these years since I love his mother (Anne Rice) books so much. Next I read A Density of Souls. I really enjoyed this as well and was hooked on this new writter. Well new for me. I think I read somewhere he started writting at age 22. On to this book Blind Fall. Oh what a tangled web we weave. Another great book. His writting syle is different then what I am use to reading but I really get into his books. If you have never read any of his books I believe you will enjoy them. At this point I can not tell you which I enjoyed the most but have learned from all of them. Not everything is as it appears to be and the things we do today really do change our tomorrow. Now the hard part is deciding which of his books I will read next. But I am sure it will be right up there too. Thank you Chistopher Rice for great work.
I don't think most people in the United States fully understand why it's so wrong to discriminate against Gay people. Even Gay people I know, don't completely grasp why it's important for barriers to be lifted socially, legally, and morally. This story explores every aspect of the urgency of that problem. The characters are not extraordinary. They're exactly the kind of people I know and have met, who experience discrimination, abuse, and a lack of respect, simply because of being Gay.
The pivotal character, Alex Martin, had fallen in love with a Marine named Mike Bowers, and in spite of many obstacles, maintained a relationship with him through Bowers deployment to Iraq. Bowers and Martin seem to be on the verge of establishing a life together when Bowers is murdered. John Houck, a straight Marine buddy of Bowers, befriends Martin, and attempts to help him find out who murdered Bowers. But in order to do that, Houck has to put himself into the shoes of a Gay man, and this...
Am I the only one who only cared about Mike's character? Although I thought the book was just okay, with its many ups and downs, I found myself really only interested in one thing, and that was Mike's history. I felt like the story wasn't deep enough, or delved further enough into each and every characters' major complaints toward one another (I mean this from the villains to the heroes). This caused many of the major events to be unbelievable. For starters, had Alex shared more of his history with Mike through intervals during his time with John I would've been able to appreciate his character more and what he was trying to achieve. Although Alex shared a little, it wasn't enough, and in the end his character came across as selfish and generic. I honestly don't remember him even mourning for Mike. His relationship with his deceased partner just seemed so... empty at the end of the book. Likewise, to me the book would've been better if John shared more of his time with Mike to...
