You've got to love the octaver. One stomp and you can take your tone on a lowwwwww-end cruise. And what's cool about the Boss OC-3 (one of the most popular octavers on the face of the planet and maybe even on the arm of the planet, we're not sure what that is but we're just saying)... well it has a sweet polyphonic octave mode. Turn the upper right dial to "Poly" and start hearing your chords in crazy subterranean glory. As you can guess, that makes the Boss OC-3 a serious creative tool too. Cool. Cool tool. Get one, fool. (Wow, help us.)

This pedal does exactly what it's advertised to do. Like most, it requires some twiddling and reading of instructions to figure out. Chicago Music Exchange delivered very promptly, as usual.
I play in a rock/blues band with just a guitar, a bass, a drummer and a vocalist. This pedal really helps fill out the sound particularly during solos when in other circumstances the sound can get a bit "hollow". Not a pedal you can just plug in a instantly get a good sound from, this takes more fiddling with than your average effects pedal, but its worth it. I run it through an old peavey amp which has two imputs and have found that if you use the additional feature of splitting the sound using the twin outputs on the pedal, putting the oc3 at the start of the pedal chain. That way the octave down sound can come out clean and the regular guitar sound goes through the normal route via overdrive/fuzz/delay etc. That seems to be the best way to get a chunky sound out without muddying up the overall quality. However that only works if you have multiple inputs or can put the octave through a pa system. If you are just using the mono output, make sure you turn off any other effects or else...
I bought this just to occasionally lay down 'bass loops' on the fly at my acoustic gigs. I play a bass pedal keyboard, but sometimes the song calls for a part that is too quick (or too specific) for my feet. Like most of my fx pedals, I use it just for one specific sound. Serious knob-twiddlers could get much more out of it, but it does what I need it to do.
