To fully season a 100-count wood humidifier box, it needs about 100 grams of water. Each Size 60 Boveda 84 releases about 35 grams of moisture. So use one seasoning packet for every 25 TOTAL items your box can hold. Over 14 days, Boveda 84% RH will raise the moisture to about 65% RH—without disturbing the integrity or the geometry of the wood.

Close the lid and don’t open the box for 14 days. After 14 days, open the box, remove the Boveda seasoning packs and discard them—they aren’t reusable. Move your items back into your seasoned Spanish cedar humidifier box. Add new Boveda 72% RH maintenance packs (sold separately). NEVER MIX the 84% with any other %RH.

Boveda takes the hassle and guesswork out of seasoning your wooden desktop humidor. Proper seasoning is critical to getting the performance and flavor characteristics that wooden humidor storage provides. The purpose of seasoning is to raise the moisture level of the wood inside your humidor to the level you want to store your cigars, typically 68-70% RH. If a humidor isn't properly seasoned, the wood will rob the moisture from the cigars until equilibrium is met. The 84% Boveda packet is designed specifically for seasoning wooden desktop humidors. Simply place one 84% pack in your humidor for every 25 cigars the humidor is capable of storing. Close the lid and allow the humidor to season for 14 days. During those 14 days, the Boveda pack(s) will very gradually release their moisture into the wood. This slow process prevents the cracking, warping and shock to the humidor, that the old method of wiping down with a damp rag can create. Boveda has done extensive research to know that 14 days is the ideal time period for seasoning humidors. After 14 days, the wood will have reached equilibrium at between 68-70% relative humidity. At that point the seasoning packs can be removed and replaced with standard Boveda packs, at the RH level you prefer.
