It's REALLY easy to setup. Quiet, small form factor, and doesn't blind you with blinking LEDs. The backup software is a full version, which is also easy to use. Buffalo's NAS is also web accessible. Sure, it doesn't have all the crazy features that other brands might offer but this one solid and simple solution. I have been a customer of Buffalo products for around 10 years now. I've never been disappointed.
I was really happy with this model until I found out it has NO UPS POWER MANAGEMENT in the Web Console. You can schedule it to turn off and on at selected times, however there is no feature to utilize this NAS with a UPS. Buffalo states this as a feature on their website however this 'mysterious feature' is not listed in the manual. I can only hope for a firmware update.
Sent an email to Buffalo explaining the 'missing' feature. I received an email back stating that there was a mistake in the...
Today was the first day I tried using it and it failed. The unit started up in "Emergency Mode". Basically it's what buffalo calls it's fail over mode when the unit fails to boot properly. Right out of the box this thing was a dud. Luckily google is awesome and I found someone who had the same problem and he walked me through it. Basically you have to download the firmware flasher program. That program has a secret debug mode that you have to activate by editing the .ini file. While in the debug mode I had to format the drive and then force the firmware upgrade. After doing that it seems to be working fine. I also read that formating the drive using exFAT is best for this device.
I would return it but I tossed out the box and packaging it came in.
here is the guide I used to help me get it out of Emergency Mode http://www.herzig-net.de/prog/?page=unbrick_ls-wxl
Edit: I've been using it for a few days and it has been working quit nicely. Using...
I purchased the 2 TB version and love it, instant setup quiet operation and its perfect with a RAID 1 already enabled. First start-up only took about 2 min and all it took from there was an install from the provided disk and few selections for its initial setup. It has a lot more options that I expected and is a heck of a value loaded with two drives. Hard drives installed: (2) TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 1TB 32MB Cache SATA 3
