Received the first rangefinder from Amazon and was disappointed by just about everything about it. I immediately checked the accuracy as I do with all rangefinders I purchase. I use a steel tape and measure exactly 25yds from a reflective surface like a white metal garage door. Rangefinder is placed on a tripod and measurement is taken from the front element. The reading from the rangefinder was consistently 25.9 yds which is not within the guaranteed accuracy of plus or minus 1/2 yd out to 125 yds. I use the unit for bowhunting mainly so I am picky about short yardage measurements and a rangefinder that costs this much should be much closer than this at this range in bow mode. I placed my Nikon Monarch 800 on the tripod, double checked the tape and got consistent readings of exactly 25 yds. To make matters worse I found the buttons on the unit to be very unresponsive with no distinct clicks to navigate through the different options. The power button was very difficult to turn on and...
I am very pleased with this range finder. I don' t think I have been able to range deer sized animals out to 700 yards as it says but it comes very close. I generally pick a bright rock near the deer when the range gets that long. Quite honestly, at that range it gets hard to find the deer in the range finder but I don't really think that is an issue with the range finder - deer are just well camouflaged critters and you need 10x high quality binoculars at that range! I have also had some issues in the fog but these performed better than my buddies Leupold range finder (not sure of his model) in those challenging conditions. It is hard to complain too much about that because light is going to scatter in fog and mist. That is just physics. My only real complaint is that the menu system is a little clunky to access.
Overall, they perform quite well. I would recommend them.
I have always been a Bushnell fan, scopes, optics and other products, all have been top notch. This unit is a real advancement over their older models with a lighted display which is easy to see if both light and dark conditions. The laser they use is I believe IR which is not visible to human and animals which is a common sense feature for a product such as this. Its range is good, out to 1300 yards and seems pretty effective. I even shot this through glass once and got a reading, but I don't know how accurate it was considering glass can reflect and cause the unit to report an inaccurate value. Overall, this is probably the best unit you can buy for the money, its features are great and it works well. Build quality is also very good. I would recommend this product.
