Is it possible that everything you have been told about retirement planning is wrong?

Is retirement dead? Perhaps not yet, but it’s on life support.

The concept of retirement, as we’ve known it, is becoming a thing of the past. With the major economic, social, cultural, medical, technological, and employment shifts that have occurred in the past two decades, most everyone under the age of 100 now has to rethink what they thought “retirement” would be.

Furthermore, the various “financial planning” industries are still looking at retirement through the lens of the 20th century, pushing products, services, and concepts that can actually reduce your chances for comfort in your later years!

Busting the Retirement Lies is a quick read that will transform your perspective on retirement. You will learn:

• Why retiring might be a BAD idea - and what to do instead!

• The challenge of ageism and wisdom from centenarians

• Why “saving enough” is not enough

• How financial planners can skew projections, creating false expectations

• Why your 401(k) or qualified plan is likely delivering disappointing results

• How conventional retirement planning strategies are changing

• Role models and case studies of people who are re-defining retirement

• Shocking analysis from financial calculators that show "the whole truth" about retirement planning, inflation, and why you may want to re-think retirement

• Principles of Prosperity to guide your investment decisions, and more!

But most of all, regardless of your current age, you will learn what you can do to best enjoy the rest of your life with purpose, passion and prosperity!

Note: Due to the economic models discussed in this book, it is mainly applicable to readers in the United States; however, it may still be relevant to readers in Canada and Western Europe. Please read the sample text before purchasing.

This book crunches some serious numbers with screen-captured financial software (you'll be appalled to learn the toll that taxes and fees take on "your" money), but it's about SO much more than financial strategies. Butler tackles the very IDEA of retirement and offers alternatives, along with many case studies and examples of people who are doing things differently. While sobering at times, it's ultimately an inspiring read that gives many practical tips for creating a fulfilling and prosperous life at any age.

I loved the personal stories, was challenged by Butler's admonition to save 20% and resonated strongly with her emphasis on contribution and being of service. That idea is so much more inspiring than thinking of a life filled with nothing but leisure, which I'm sure can get old quickly. I also appreciated the historical perspective about how new "retirement" is. The book takes a "big picture" look at retirement, and makes you question the... Read more
I am 56 and feel strangled by that feeling of retirement. This book redefines the word. It looks at 401K as a stale asset builder and shows through examples how your money stagnated and loses value through managerial costs and inflation and better yet it is tax free until you take it out. After years of asset building, you never know the tax rate of withdrawal until you take it out. The book doesn't tell you not to save, it simply employs a money in motion philosophy. The book favors Whole Life insurance and real estate as better vehicles as you have control with these. Also, the arbitrary age of 65 for retirement is busted. Many examples are given on how to continue working and most of all contributing to society at any age. I plan to re-read this again, it was just that good. My struggle to reach retirement is a joke. My plan to live, prosper and give back to society is really more important. The book tells you to have lots of fun and to re challenge yourself throughout your life... Read more
these basic investment principles and financial "rules of thumb" are not new but often are overlooked or taken for granted.I'm grateful to Butler for reminding me of how easy it is to waste time and energy focusing on the wrong ideals about retirement. Thanks
