Four years after the great cataclysm, CA’s primary characters are struggling to rebuild the Golden State while coping with their latent memories and other effects of the disaster. Ken Whitlock returns to kick-start the film industry and Greg Foreman of the USGS believes he’s on the cusp of being able to predict earthquakes while still others see opportunities for for a new life. Washington is insisting on re-populating the state and everything looks promising until the quiescent earth starts moving again.

Very disappointing after the previous book. The earth didn't start moving until the last couple pages and it just a big earthquake. Except for brief episode with a volcanic eruption, the rest of the book deals mostly with the characters from the previous novel. Okay but not what I expected and not what I was looking for.
Way better than the first book, but still only 2.5 stars, tops. I read the first book and it was only 1 star, purely based on the author's courage to write and publish. This sequel is better written overall. It's obvious that actual editing took place.
Sadly, not enough editing to catch significant grammar, spelling, science and continuity mistakes. McGraw should keep going, though. I believe he will continue to get better as he develops his craft!
To that end, more subject matter research is necessary. Based on improvement between books 1 and 2, Mr. McGraw did do some Google searches at the very least. However, the way the book reads, I don't believe it provided him enough working knowledge.
Either that, or he tried to really dumb it down for his audience and fell off a cliff. Most importantly, (as with 90% of indie authors), Mr. McGraw really needs to employ a professional editor or a very good amateur one! (I have openings.)
This sequel to "California Archipelago" features non-stop action as it brought me up to date on the lives of the survivors four years after the original disaster. Their struggles to restore their previous life styles are realistic and I found myself cheering for them and mourning for those who later lost their lives. The way the disasters are connected geographically makes me believe that Mr. McGraw did considerable research on the possible effects of earthquakes in the area. I find the novel believable, scary and entertaining.
