Designed with complete refinement and precise balance
Perfectly voiced for the most discerning listener
Plays music with acute precision and a professional delivery
Has power in reserve for even the most demanding speakers
Power, precision and digital connectivity. The CXA80 was designed with complete refinement and precise balance at the forefront of our engineer's product spec. The result is one of the most mature amplifiers in our range; perfectly voiced for the most discerning listener, it plays music with acute precision and a professional delivery. Rated at 80 Watts per channel the CXA80 has power in reserve for even the most demanding speakers. But it's the way in which this power is delivered that put's the CXA80 completely out of reach from its competitors. The entire internal layout is designed to minimize left and right interference (crosstalk) and provide astonishing stereo separation so you can virtually place each instrument in your room. It has symmetrical and separate transformer taps for the left and right channels, twin rectifiers and separate PSUs. When combined together these 'dual mono' features deliver incredible presence and depth to your music and a wide, enveloping soundstage that's normally only available in amplifiers costing many times more. Our engineers spent months to create the unique separated circuit board because they knew it would eventually provide the sound they wanted. As for power they were similarly insistent on sticking to what they knew would deliver. They used a class AB amplifier to minimise crossover distortion so music sounds purer and more controlled. An audiophile-grade oversize toroidal transformer provides huge power reserves, a consistent audio signal (no clipping) and a sensational bass performance. Finally, an ALPs film type volume pot was recruited for its accurate volume control and superb low level channel balance so the volume is always perfect across both left and right channels at whatever volume you're enjoying.

Sweet and solid sound, well engineered, lots of analog and digital inputs, and looks great, too! I wanted a new integrated amp to replace my 26-year-old (and still excellent!) Sony STR-GX7ESII receiver, which I'm handing down to my college-bound nephew. I was dithering between the Cambridge Azur 651A, the Music Hall A15.3 and the Marantz 5005 / 6005 / 7005 line when Cambridge announced its CX series. My primary use is playback from a Windows 10 PC that I also use to sample LPs for burning to CD. Phono input wasn't necessary, because I have a dedicated phono stage. When the CXA80 was released, it just seemed to hit all my hot buttons. I would have been more than satisfied with the less-powerful, less-expensive CXA60, except that it lacks a USB input. I didn't absolutely *need* USB, since my excellent M-Audio sound card features both SPDIF coax and analog outputs, but I wanted the purest signal and maximum flexibility available in this price range, and I don't mind having the extra...
I got this AMP delivered to me 3 days ago, and I hooked it to my speakers and BDP. Before this new toy I was owning CA 651A - which was a great Amplifier and sonic to ears. I used it to drive my KEF LS50s which are sometime hard to be driven to get the best out of these speakers. So why CXA80, if all was well and good ?
CXA80 is a feature rich product with digital/SPDIF/Optical inputs, where as the CA 651A was more analogue and was limited with the number of digital or coaxial inputs expansion . I am using a Stereo setup for my TV, AppleTV, Amazon FireTV as well as the Nvidia Shield. I connected my BD player output as well to this AMP. The built in DAC features a WOlfson WM8740 chipset, supporting sampling rates of up to 24-bit, 192KHZ on both the digital and USB inputs. So it is more of an insurance for the future for my audio inventory grew in time.
The another highlight is it has a balanced XLR input, I am using my BDP output to this and it is...
A terrific integrated amp with wonderful sound quality, lots of different kinds of inputs, and plenty of power.
I use the CXA amp with KEF LS50 speakers and a 12-year old Cambridge Azur 640C cd player (cost around $500 back in 2004), plugged in via coax. The CD player is essentially functioning merely as a transport, to take advantage of the CXA's amazing DAC.
I also connect my Macbook Pro to the CXA via USB to play high-res FLAC files as well as compressed 320bit AAC and MP3 files, and for streaming TIDAL hi-res tracks. The USB connection bypasses the Macbook Pro's (respectable) sound card in order to take full advantage of the CXA's DAC.
Mostly, though, I listen to records. I have a modest turntable (an Orbit by U-Turn Audio) with a respectable Grado MM cartridge and a Budgie tube phono pre-amp.
All of these source components sound better than I've ever heard them sound before. The CXA produces sound that's detailed, spacious, warm,...
