This is a chronicle of my unexpected 100-day sojourn at Cambridge, MA. The journal preserves the emotional journey of a lonesome commuter living in a time of unsettling corporate mergers and the raging, pre-election campaign that ultimately sent Barack Obama to the White House. It was my medicine to cope with the long commute over weekends between Cambridge and New Jersey. It was a modern day pilgrim's periscope to make sense of the daily reality.
Allow me to take you on a tour. Ride the Greyhound bus back and forth and chat with strangers from all walks of life, such as the young collegians facing uncertainties in job market, the carefree Swedish travelers, the aspiring acupuncturist, the old mom crisscrossing 12 states to see her grown up son. Visit Harvard Square time and again for stimulating evening forums on a diverse array of topics that are political, economic, historical or spiritual. Find a bacteria-man connection in MIT seminar room. Listen to Obama's Presidential campaign stump speech in Boston Common. Go near the Fenway Park and feel the excitement of Game One. Join the parade celebration of the Red Sox for their World Series win. Eavesdrop for a dinner table faith dialogue with roommates and friends. Meditate a little deeper on the work or news of the day. Have a near miss with genome decoder J. Craig Venter signing his book at Harvard Bookstore. Share the pride with Sudoku world champion's parents. Meet a college classmate after 23 years. Listen to the Baritone by a late night janitor. And finally, come home with me.
