Caribou French Roast coffee has a tart, apple acidity with a silk, heavy body.
This coffee offers a wonderfully rich and dramatic combination of high grown Central and South American coffees accented with beans from Papua New Guinea. They're blended together and roasted to a beautiful dark brown with an even development of surface oils. Our French Roast is a coffee with presence, and a body that is smooth and deliciously heavy.
While we roast this blend in traditional French roast style, we do it with a Caribou Coffee twist, which means it will not be as dark and oily as some French roasts. Our technique produces a decadent coffee with bittersweet cocoa notes that contrast with a wonderful tart apple acidity, and finishes with subtle smoky tones.
French Roast is a dark roast coffee.

My husband has to cut down on his caffein, so we've been trying different decaf coffee, including Mellow Joy and Community. This coffee has the least amount of caffein and the best flavor of any of them. We use the same amount in our Cuisinart coffee maker as we did with the other coffee: 2 coffee scoops to 1 1/3 cups water, which produces approximately an 8oz. cup in our machine. Caribou is not available locally where we live in Louisiana so I was glad to find it on Amazon. It's not cheap but we feel the health benefits of lower caffein are worth it. My husband commented on the excellent coffee flavor--he said it didn't taste like decaf. We've had Caribou Coffee in Wisconsin where they used to have nice cafes, but these have been taken over by Peet's, so I assume we'll have to continue to get this coffee online. I hope they keep offering it.
I don't make very good coffee, and I'm a whiz in the kitchen.
I've been wishing for strong and smooth, and thought I'd try just one more time.
I don't remember who should get credit for this quote, but after my first and second [in case the first time was a fluke!] brewing of this coffee, I literally said, "Never give up. Never, never give up"
The same coffee pot, the same coffee ditz, the same water...but this coffee rocked. Rich, smooth; full, strong flavor without the bitter bite. I'm very happy with this one.
NOTE: Unlike some reviews, mine came as whole beans which I crushed in my nutri-blend mini-blender. I actually thought they would be pre-ground, but I have no regrets.
I'm always trying new decaf coffees as our family goes thru them quite quickly. The Caribou ground decaf was fairly inexpensive and got good reviews so I gave it a try. Smooth and classic is an accurate description. It was definitely lacking in taste but wasn't acidic or bitter. Judging from the use-by date this had to be over six months old; the stale taste confirmed it. If you drink your coffee with lots of cream and/or sugar this is a decent base coffee :) I don't know about the other flavors but I won't likely get their ground again. My favorite decaf which is not inexpensive is currently the San Francisco Bay decaf French Roast (great if you like a bold dark roast decaf).
