Material: Thermoflex, Thermoflex Core Due
Chamois: yes, Progetto X2 Air
Imagine being able to ride in cold weather with clothing that emulated all the best features of your summer-weight kit: bibs that didn't restrict breathing, a chamois as good as the one in your best shorts, and lightweight materials that didn't feel bulky or restrictive. The Castelli Sorpasso Bib Tights are part of Castelli's Rosso Corsa line of products, and as a result, they get the Italian manufacturer's very best treatment in materials, design, and fit. The Sorpasso Bib Tights begin with Castelli's top-of-the-line Progetto X2 pad, the same pad found in their best shorts. The top layer that contacts your skin is a made from a seamless, four-way stretch microdenier fabric designed to move in harmony with your body and eliminate the chafing that can come with materials with too little stretch. It receives an antibacterial treatment and is bonded to a variable thickness pad made from multiple density foams; the result is a smoothly contoured pad that places the firmest foam where support is most needed. Perforated inserts help to relieve pressure on the sit bones and perineum -- just where riders experience the greatest pressure. The front of the tights are cut from Thermoflex Core Due to keep the wind out. This two-layer material traps air in a hollow-core layer of polyester while moisture is transported to the outer nylon/Lycra layer where it can evaporate. A simpler fabric, Thermoflex, is used for the portions of the tights not exposed to the wind for greater breathability. Giro++ grippers keep both the bib straps and ankles in place. It's rare to find bibtights that are this light and this warm. Like the bibs in the Rosso Corsa line, the waist of the Sorpasso Bib Tights is cut very low to eliminate restrictions on breathing caused by pressure on the belly. The Castelli Sorpasso Bib Tights are Black/white and are available in six sizes from Small through XXX-Large.

I wear these tights for rides in the 40-60 degree Fahrenheit range. At the lower end of that range, they simply do not provide quite enough warmth. The worst part is that they didn't put the Windstopper material over the crotch, which seems like a big oversight. Because of this, I've taken to wearing a pair of tighty whities underneath just to keep things warm down there. With this formula, things work out okay, but you shouldn't have to do this after you've paid 150 bucks for supposedly cold weather tights. Apart from this, the tights are a good product. They're Castelli, so they run small. I'm 6'1" 180, so I sized way up and ordered XXL. They actually seem a little loose in the lower leg, but then again the underwear I have to wear underneath would be uncomfortable if I'd gone with an XL. The chamois is as comfortable as you'll find. I don't have as much of an issue with the straps as others; I don't think I'd want straps that are much bulkier, plus I've never felt like they're...
For winter riding you can't go wrong with these tights. Castelli makes great apparel and it shows in these tights. Every detail is excellent workmanship. They fit firm, feel good, chamois seat is very comfortable. Most importantly they are warm even on the very cold rides. I wear them in 30 to 40 degree windy weather and am very comfortable. As with all Castelli products order one size larger than what you would wear in an American brand. I am 5'10" with a 34" waist and an Extra Large fits me perfectly. I give it my highest recommendation.
Castelli makes great gear and these bibs did not disappoint. I have ridden with these one days and nights down as low as about 40 degrees and they are plenty comfortable. The chamois is amazing in that I can ride distances of 40-60 miles and I don't feel the need to use chamois cream which is a huge plus for me. The only think about them that seems a little flimsy are the straps. I could be wrong about their durability but they seem a little weak. That is the only reason that I gave these 4 stars. Also, there are several other riders in my group that use these and they both love them too.
