The alarm is intentionally painfully loud to irritate the offender. For this reason, kids have to be instructed to only trigger the alarm in emergency situations.
This is how it works:
Firmly pull on the key ring of the panic alarm, and the alarm starts ringing immediately. The safety pin completely detaches from the device so the offender cannot quickly turn off the alarm by pushing a button, but so the safety pin can be simply reinserted after a false alarm. The alarm is turned off by reinserting the safety pin.
