I've been knitting about a year and a half, so I'm still a beginner. The Chiaogoo circulars are my third pair of circulars, and I absolutely love them! The red cord is actually wire with a red rubber coating, and it has no memory (unlike the plastic cords/cables of my other two sets of ciruclars, they have retained the round shape. I know you can relax cords like that by boiling some water and submerging it into the water, until the heat relaxes the plastic enough that they'll straighten out, so I will try that. But I don't need to do that with these ones!

The needles themselves are solid metal (chrome?) and they're smooth all the way to the beginning of the cable. They also have points that are a liiitlle bit sharper than my other needles, and they're very helpful. The slightly pointer points allow me to pick up awkward stitches, or a dropped stitches without any fuss. It's a small design feature, but it makes a big difference. I find that I'm not manhandling my yarn or... Read more
For me, there's not a huge difference between Knitter's Pride, Knitpicks metal needles, Addi turbo, and the rest. Is that sacrilege to say? If I favor one over another, it's based on whether I want a very sharp or more rounded tip for the work at hand.

This brand has the best cord I've seen yet. They are right that it has ZERO memory, so no kinking up on itself. Not that any of the brands today kink the way my old Boye Needlemaster did, but the ChiaoGoo is the most unobtrusive yet. There is some flexibility tradeoff here, however - with multiple cables inside the plastic, it's not going to "fold up" to nothing for a magic loop or the like. (Okay for me as I don't care to do magic loop - for circular I'll go with 5 DPNs or 2 circs.)

I SLIGHTLY favor nickle over stainless steel, but a lot of folks react to nickle, and their body chemistry causes the needles to tarnish with use.

Will split splitty yarns, as will any *lace* needle worth it's... Read more
When I first got into knitting I slowly accumulated Addi Turbo needles in a full complement of sizes. Loved the slick needles, not so much the inflexible cables & round tips. Then I started knitting shawls & sweaters and my nice pointy needles that had replaced my Addis for Magic Loop knitting smaller projects simply did have sufficiently sturdy cables to stand up to the abuse. I went to find pointy tips with sturdy cables but they were no where to be found, Addi Turbo doesn't use the wire-reinforced cables anymore in their line apparently. I've gone through - literally - several different "shawl" circulars with pointy needles and these were my "next stop." I was *delighted* to find they had slick metal, pointy tips *and* a sturdy cable! It'll be totally useless for Magic Loop but I've got a herd of those. *This* is what I want for shawls and seamless topdown/bottomup sweater bodies! I don't need many but will be getting a new size of *this* needle as I start new large... Read more
