Many stories tell of life at the home front, describing raids on homes, hard times, sickness and conï¬‚icts between families and neighbors in the mountains. Col. W.W. Stringfield wrote of the many battles in which he participated. Stringfield later belonged to the Thomas Legion, where he wrote of its difficulties, discussing at length the fighters who made up the historic regiment-the Cherokee Indians.
