Description

Full color illustrations of primitive style rugs by the author. Dyeing tips and formulas from professional and natural dyes. Rug hooking design, history, useful hints, and how-to for every rug hooker who loves primitive.
After years of success and pleasure as a painter of Narrative Americana Primitive paintings I turned my hand and my love of folk art toward primitive hooked rugs. I very soon realized that to get the wonderful, antiqued, "muddy" but delightful primitive colors I wanted for my rugs I would have to get very involved in dying my own wool. Thus began a fascinating education. I worked with commercial dyes that I experimented with to get even more wonderful colors and, through research, I learned that nature had many great offerings in my garden and the woods of Cape Cod where I live. Along the way I learned so very much about the process that I hope other hookers of primitive rugs will use my techniques and try my color experiments. Full-color illustrations of many of my favorite rugs are included along with a wealth of years of experimenting. This book is my gift to the sisterhood of wool alchemists everywhere!.
