I recently took a course through the Orca Swim school in the Seattle area. They utilize Melon Dash's methods in their instruction. A little bit about my swimming history, I had an accident in a swimming pool when I was in high school and nearly drowned. I was not afraid of water before that, but since then I've a huge fear of water and just the smell of chlorine will make me relive my high school incident. I was quite skeptical of the methods outlined in this book, but was willing to give it a try. I have gone to conventional swimming classes and they didn't work for me. It was very important to me to learn how to swim because I now have a baby girl and I did not want to pass on my fear of the water to her. Melon emphasizes going slow and being very gentle with yourself. If you let yourself go slow and treat yourself with gentleness, you will find that swimming will come naturally and without thought. Have been quite scared of large bodies of water for so long! Started to read this book and have made such progress in a short amount of time. I haven't finished the book yet, but am so confident that I will be swimming with ease in no time.
