Our focus in this book continues to be on defining contemporary concepts, terms, phrases, phrasings, prefixes, suffixes, root words, related terms, abbreviated forms, terms that need to be distinguished from each other, and medical theory about causation used in todayâ€™s medical conversations, discussions, journal articles, and textbooks for administrators, allied health professionals, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and physicians, both professionals and those in-training.

In the 2017, 2nd. ed. , we focus on contemporary medical terms and how they are used in the current medical literature. Some approaches to medical terminology define terms in such a way that more questions are generated by the definition than are answers. Our approach is to supply enough meaningful term to allow a firmer grasp of a term. Our approach also allows readers to expand their understanding of medical terms at a faster rate. We point out in advance if the term is used in different ways in different medical contexts rather than to force the reader to figure the points out on their own.
Two key features of this book: (1) the inclusion of related terms which help readers distinguish between terms that are often confused in medicine by showing what distinguishes one term from the others and how these term inter-relate in contemporary medical usage.
We have defined contemporary medical terms in the context of related terminology to expand the userâ€™s awareness of both the medical term of interest and closely inter-related contemporary medical terms, and (2) emphasis on a basic understanding of root words, prefixes, and suffixes to help the reader to further extend their understanding of medical terms. In this book, contemporary medical terms are approached dynamically as we focus on causation and mechanism of action in the definition of the term. We continue to update our book on a regular basis to keep our readers up to date with current medical concepts and terminology as they develop.
