After looking at the features of the ipod vs the "non-pods", I bought this Creative Zen Vision M 60gb MP4 player. I like the slightly thinner iPod, but it really is very insignificant when compared with the Vision M's features.

You probably already know the Vision M allows copying of Tivo recordings through Tivo Desktop and .avi (DVDs) through ripping software. I have Lost, Desperate Housewives, CSI, and Bones automatically updated each week on my Vision M when I dock my unit. Sometimes I like listening to books when I commute, so now I can download them through my local library for free. The library uses Overdrive and NetLibrary to check them out to me for 3 weeks, and guess what? No late fees, they just disappear from my list on the due date the library gave me. Owners of Ipods have to buy their audiobooks from Apple because Apple refuses to allow Overdrive or NetLibrary to use their iPod format for providing downloads. So, nothing for free for your iPod. This was a big... Read more
Pros: I travel frequently and need entertainment to get through long delays. The Zen Vision M holds every CD that I own with plenty of room to spare. I also like the fact that the 60 GB model can download photos directly from Canon cameras. I've found that 100 pictures can be downloaded in approximately 10 minutes. I also have purchased movies and TV series from Amazon's unbox service. The Zen screen is sharp and provides a reasonable picture and sound.

However, problems may occur when synching Amazon downloaded video to the player. The material transfers to the player, but can not be played and a message "no license to play appears". Apparently, "Hotfox for Windows Media Format 11 SDK (KB929399) causes this the problem. Once the update is removed the problem disappears. Unfortunately, Windows will continually attempt to redownload this so called "fix'. Microsoft at its very best!

Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase and use the player... Read more
I purchased this because I also own a Creative Labs Muvo Jukebox (also discontinued). I have to say that I'm disappointed in the Media Organizer software used to load this unit. The older Jukebox model would organize MP3 tracks using the ID3 tags, but with this unit, you need to pay close attention to the file and directory structures if you want to load two songs which may have the same title. This unit appears to recognize ID3 tags, but does not consider them when loading files and cross-checking for duplicate entries. What this means is that if you have two CDs - perhaps one a studio recorded CD, and the other, a live performance both featuring different versions of the same song, even though th ID3 tags are very different (different time, different album title, etc), the Media Organizer software only looks at the track title and will consider the two the same - then not load the second song considering it a 'duplicate' track. This really stinks because now you have to create... Read more
