This volume uses autoethnography—cultural analysis through personal narrative—to explore the tangled relationships between culture and communication. Using an intersectional approach to the many aspects of identity at play in everyday life, a diverse group of authors reveals the complex nature of lived experiences. They situate interpersonal experiences of gender, race, ethnicity, ability, and orientation within larger systems of power, oppression, and social privilege. An excellent resource for undergraduates, graduate students, educators, and scholars in the fields of intercultural and interpersonal communication, and qualitative methodology.

Great introduction to a nascent field. I wish this came out in a digital format. Shipping it all they way to South Africa costs a small fortune. Ironically, it's the type of resource that would probably be most useful to people living outside of the USA - e.g. globalisation and intersectionality. Also, digital is so much easier to search full text - an index isn't always as comprehensive. I wanted to find mentions of "neoliberalism" and had to manually index them myself, paging through the entire book. It would have helped to position autoethnography as an interdisciplinary methodology so that students could present a good case to academia outside of communications faculty by using epistemological and ontological frameworks that support qualitative research of this nature. For example, how does critical autoethnography relate to postmodernism, post-structuralism, critical realism, materialism, agential realism, transpersonalism, integral inquiry, the neoliberal subject and...
Very helpful with theoretical aspects of autoethnography
