Crows Licorice Flavored Gumdrops are one of the oldest American confections as they were invented in the late 1800's by Ernest Von Au and Joseph Maison. There has been much speculation as to where the name came from but, as lore has it, it was caused by a miscommunication. The original name was supposed to read â€œBlack Roseâ€ but the printer misinterpreted and printed the label as â€œCrowsâ€." Crows faded in and out of the market and it wasn't until 1972 that the brand was acquired by Tootsie Roll Industries. Over a hundred and fifteen year have passed but the classic Licorice Flavored Black Gumdrops remain one of the oldest, and beloved, retro candies. Kosher Certified
