Sorry about using my credentials in the title, but I want to convey how much experience I have with these strings. Sorry if I sound like an ad. I REALLY love these strings.
I have strung literally thousands of guitars over my 40 years of repairing stringed instruments. D'Addario EJ16s are IMHO the best strings money can buy- it is the standard of the industry for good reason... they're simply the best string available! D'Addario's corrosion-proof sealed bags ensure you get them as fresh as when they left the factory. Lower grade cheap strings are shipped in simple paper envelopes and allow the metals inside to oxidize just while sitting on the shelf at the warehouse, store or while in your case. On the other hand, expensive hand made strings, like DRs or J Pierce, are wrapped way too tightly, thus, have too much mass, so your guitar's intonation and rod will probably need to be readjusted. They also play stiffly. D'Addario uses the best steel and bronze alloy and wraps the...
I just slapped these on my Larrivee, and they sound great!
Normally stings take a while to break in and sound the way they are suppose to, but just after a few minutes it sounded very good.
Right after putting them on and tuning it for the first time, they sounded a little bit twangy and warm. But after a bit of stretching and playing, they sounded warm, balanced, and responsive. Additionally, they felt very slick, and felt very easy to slide up and down the fretboard - more slick than over acoustic strings out of the box.
Having tried Earthwood Strings, Martin Acoustic, and Elixer Nanoweb. These D'Addario strings are on my short list of strings to buy in the future. I like these about as much as the Earthwood strings, however Earthwood strings cost much more. Maybe I'll like these D'Addario more than the Earthwood strings as they break in.
Only downside I can think of right now is how the strings are packaged. The strings all come in...
I've been using d'Addario 10s for years on my electrics recently started using the acoustic live. I needed something a bit more boomy and resonant without a lot of string noise. I debated the size but decided to try one pack of this set (EJ17s) which have a size of .13 on the high E to .57 on the low. I'm so glad I did. They are quite "boomy" and really bring out the dynamics of acoustic playing and they respond well to both finger styles and various pick thickness. In general you want to go a size or two larger on your acoustic than your electric and I was so pleased with the sound and feel of this set I bought extras right away.
On top of everything else they are very reasonable in price so it's quite easy on the budget to change them regularly even if they don't wear out. The Phosphor bronze gives them a bit of an edge in sound over standard strings but doesn't go into that 90s "super trebly" territory some special wound strings do. I'd say these are...
