Recently bought this to replace my DW977 impact driver that has lasted close to 20 years or so. The biggest reason I chose the DCF895: it has an adjustable torque switch allowing 3 ranges. The 977 had 7 settings but in use I'd typically need either the lowest or highest, occasionally a middle setting so the 3 ranges is just about right. For some reason the ability to adjust torque is disappearing from impact drivers and yet I find it indispensable.
I make my living with my tools, so this isn't just for hobby use, or occasional household projects.
The new tools are almost unbelievably powerful. This one--and most of the pro level impact drivers from Makita and Hitachi--produces 125 ft-lbs. of torque. That is as much or more than is needed on a car/light truck's wheel lug nuts for example. To use an impact driver of this power on say the #6 stainless steel screws (encrusted in 2 years of mud and debris accumulation) holding the grates on a landscaping drain is...
I work on projects at home and have Cr****man 19.2V C3 series tools. This was my 1st Dewalt 20V - First off, I researched this more than the CIA looking for Snowden. Youtube, Amazon reviews, picking the brains of craftsmen I know personally - and it came down to this tool for me. Why? 20V - awesome power for doing light, med OR HEAVY DUTY. I'm a go big or go home kinda guy. Brushless - Consensus: 1. Less heat from the motor = longer use per battery. 2. Longer life of the motor I have a smaller 12V impact as well for those quick jobs. This is versatile enough for small jobs or those bigger ones. It's not overweight like another screwdriver/drill I have - the Li-Ion battery(s) that came with this are part of this reason. Well, there's more, but I have a mantel to build and install. Hope this helped! PS - There are plenty of reasons to get other brands/tools - but when it comes to tech: I'd rather be on the cutting edge, than the bleeding edge!
I am an average home owner that does their own renovations and recently began building a few rooms in the basement. I probably have about 15 hours on this tool and it has worked great so far. The battery life is defiantly good especially for the size of the batteries. I was concerned with being an impact they would not last that long. The driver does not slowly decrease power as the battery drains. It runs strong till the battery needs to be recharged and the tool just turns off. The recessed chuck is nice as the head of the tool is very compact for tight areas. The 3 LEDs on the head are excellent at removing shadows unlike when their is just 1 LED pointing at the working area on most drills. It does come with both the belt clip and a bit holder on the side of the tool. The 3 speeds are a must have especially for impact. Speed 1 is just fine for driving screws into 2x4 speed 3 will almost put the screw through a 2x4 if desired. Not all Dewalt drills come like this. I am...
