I purchased this hammer from Amazon and their response was first rate. I had several email conversations with a service rep at Dalluge and was instructed not to use punches, drifts or cat's claw with this product. Fair enough! When I received the hammer it works as advertised and relieves elbow strain considerably. I really like the side nail puller and the 1" longer handle compared to my 25 yr. old 22 oz Estwing, aids in pulling 3-1/2" ardox.
However, there are some concerns. There is really excessive chamfering (try 3/16"!) on the hammer face and it is difficult to impossible, to angle the last blow and countersink nail heads. The head could benefit from less convex curvature in my opinion too. Also, the handle dried up in a few weeks and became loose sideways such that I had to insert some cardboard on the job to tighten the head on the handle. The handle is an excellent choice of edge grained hickory, set in the correct direction. Good work! When I emailed...
This hammer is too light to frame. The 12 oz. stiletto is heavier than this 16 oz dalluge. It feels way too light. Handle is too long for a good finish hammer. I use it because I paid so much money for it. However, in almost every swing I take, I wish it had more heft. I like a lightweight hammer, don't get me wrong. I'm not one of these framers who likes a 23 oz steel hammer. I do finish work and wanted to find something lightwight to move into framing with. I'd go with a stiletto, even though I like this design better.
titanium is worth the cost. Don't buy a steel hammer under the thought it will last forever, because your arm won't last as long as the hammer will. Bite the bullet and do yourself a favor. Estwings are known for the damage they cause the user. So why would you consider using one? This is the most versitile wooden handled hammers I have found. Well worth the upgrade. Your worth it.
