The Barrier Boot is a replacement for a lost shoe and protects the tender frog and sole. It allows the horse to walk unshod, protecting the hoof from cracks and chips. The Barrier Boot is ideal for trail riding with tender soled horses. The simple pull-on fit allows for easy application in the field without tools. The Barrier Boot stays secure with a strong nylon adjustable strap without damaging the hoof wall.

Recently my horse got an abscess in her hoof. I have 2 easy boots, but I dread using them because they are not so easy to put on or take off. I found the barrier boot on Amazon.com and decided to try it. Wow, it was so easy to put on and take off. It made treating the abscess a lot easier! The only downfall is that it does fall off especially when the horse is turned out or there is excess mud in the stall. To help avoid this and keep the hoof as clean as possible, I simply wrapped duct tape around the middle and top of the boot and it stayed on better. I would definitely recommend this boot to anybody treating an abscess.
Used this boot yesterday! It stayed on without any problems...including crossing a river, mud holes, and climbing. A good boot for the price!
Had a horse whose front hoof was chipped too far back so the farrier didn't recommend it be shod with a regular shoe and nails until the hoof grew out. We were planning a two-day trail ride with friends for that weekend, so decided to use a Davis boot. The horse wears OO shoes, but bought the O size which seemed to fit well and was not very difficult to put on. However, within the first 1/4 mile of the trail....it came off. We stopped, buckled it back on....and it came off again as soon as we hit relatively rough terrain. (Not bogs or rivers--just downfall and rocks on the trail.) After about the 20th time my husband had climbed off and on his horse to put the shoe back on, we decided to call it quits and headed back to the trailer. Didn't seem to matter how many times he tightened up the strap in the back, within a short amount of time it was loose and flapping back there again. The next morning he got out the good old reliable duct tape. He pulled the strap in back as tight as he...
