The DiMarzio DP419 Area '67 is a hum canceling pickup that has the chime of '60s pickups, and its 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy. The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat in the hands of a master. Single-coil electric guitar pickups in 1967 were bright and very clean. And of course, they hummed. DiMarzio has captured this classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with patented Area technology. They also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. Recommended For: All positions, especially neck and middle Tech Talk: Strat pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area models is more efficient and focused than it is on true single-coils, which allows DiMarzio to use Alnico 2 in the DP419 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area '67 pickup produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

Good price, fast shipping, The reason for the 3 stars is this: I am a fan of DiMarzio pickups for sure, but for me, I have not been able to find a pickup for the neck position that holds the true single coil transparency when played with overdrive unless it's a true single coil. Played clean, this pickup sounds great, but for my ears, not so great when played with overdrive. Again, I am referring to the neck position only. I use a Virtual Vintage Blues in the neck and a Virtual Vintage Standard in the middle on a 1989 Fender American Standard Stratocaster and I wanted the brightest sounding hum canceling pickup for the neck position and this is what Dimarzio recommended. They are very quiet which is a plus for sure.
I have installed the Area '58 on the front and loaded this one in the middle on my Kramer Pacer American (20+ years old). The Kramer was originally equipped with Seymour Duncan but I never liked them so I replaced all S-S-H with DiMarzio.
As with the Area '58, this pickup produces excellent tone with little noise. I have no preference as to whether a pickup is SC/HB, as long as it produces good tone and keeps the noise low. Also, the tone is so clear that there is little room for faking lack of skills; the same goes for the '58. Tone is excellent throughout all ranges, not just the mid range.
Try this on a tube amp in both clean & over-driven modes. You'll like it, but I personally like the '58 better than this one.
Made in the USA.
If you're looking for that clean, classic single coil sound then look no further.
Perfect for the middle position and works very well when combining it with the neck (mini-humbucker) and bridge (humbucker) pickups.
On the other hand it has no hum and it sounds pretty much balanced, and thats not so "classic"... Is that a bad thing?
I like this pickup.
