This book has surprised me. I expected wild stories, fun anecdotes, foul language from time to time, and plenty of music, drugs and sexual escapades. What I didn't expect was Steven Tyler opening up to share his childhood dreams, the extent of his drug habits and glimpses of his insecurities and faltering moments in life. This book shares the life of a unique human being, not an advertisement, as is the case with some celebrity biographies.

The first reviewer, Mr. Jefferson, does a fine job of describing the book, so there's no reason to duplicate his effort. I will say that he's absolutely right in pointing out the conversational style of the writing. At first, I thought it seemed a little disjointed, but once I "got in the groove", the experience was like listening to Steven Tyler talk about life.

If you're easily offended, don't even think about reading this book. If you survived the 60's/70's or if you listen to rock music or if you're intrigued to know the... Read more
What is there to say about Steven Tyler? If you’re looking at buying his book, you already know what kind of man he is….and depending on your opinion of him, that could be either good or bad.

Steven talks in the book how he is now an author but also says he he was kicked out of high school and didn’t graduate. The book is well written gramatically, though it is completely all over the place jumping from one thought to the next. I’m fairly certain he had a ghost writer. I wish the writer also had their name put on it like how Tommy James book was doneMe, the Mob, and the Music: One Helluva Ride with Tommy James & The Shondells….then again this is Steven Tyler we’re talking about! The guy is one of the biggest egomaniacs living in this world. And I’m okay with that! I love his music, he’s been... Read more
Having read Joe Perry's book first, I thought it would be interesting to read Aerosmith's story from Steven Tyler's perspective as well. I think Tyler is a superb frontman, vocalist and songwriter, and is undoubtably a large part of Aerosmith's ongoing success. If you admire Tyler's talent as well, it would be in your best interest to skip this book. There's no way you'll come away from it with as much respect for Tyler as you went in with. Tyler presents himself as an ego-centric narcissist, who cannot accept any type of responsibility. He thinks the world resents him for his talent, and does everything in it's power to thwart his success out of jealousy. There is no problem in his life or in the band that was ever caused by his own behavior, only that of others. Steven makes every effort to convince you that the only reason he has survived is due to his strength of character in the face of adversity. Utter rubbish!
If you want a good read about the band, pick up Joe Perry's... Read more
