This is, without a doubt, the best investment we've ever spent on our RV! We had the old Aqua-Magic IV, from Thetford, and though it still worked (kinda - not so hot on the seal to hold water in the bowl anymore, though), it was just too short, too 'plasticy', too - yeah, that 5-gallon bucket feeling was just ever-too-present.

My wife decided she wanted a 'porcelain bowl' toilet to replace it with, but I was really balking at a lot of the prices I was seeing on them. We have other Dometic products in our RV, so I thought, hey, let's try out their Sealand toilets with the porcelain bowl, see how they are. Well, let me tell you, other than that 'OMG, can you believe that black water tank smelled that bad' effect of uncorking the old Thetford, the swap went like a charm. Biggest problem I had was the water-line short-length, which was all due to the way our RV is made. I ended up having to take the old PEX knife, cut the hose, then do this funky 3-elbows and a new... My wife and I retired and downsized into a 2010 Cedar Creek 5th wheel trailer. The original factory toilet was the Dometic 310 and we loved the ceramic bowl the 360 degrees vortex flush pattern and the home toilet height and feel. We also had the optional hand spray which I highly recommend to flush down any stubborn remaining stains.

We started to notice brown very smelly water leaking from the bottom of the toilet between the floor and the where the toilet rests. As we have dogs, we thought it was one of the boys using the side of the toilet as a fire hydrant, but we finally ruled that out. After careful observation the leak was coming from under the toilet. We searched the internet and found that many others had this same problem, mainly with older units. The issue is where the ceramic bowl upper portion joins the plastic base of the toilet (the toilet is not 100% ceramic). There is some sort of problem with the factory seal between the two parts and for the most... Read more
We installed this in our weekend cabin outhouse to replace a traditional wood commode. We tore down the commode, and used a 3/4" piece of plywood as a mounting surface and bolted this toilet to that, and bolted the plywood to the concrete over the hole to the concrete vault below. (We have separate intake and vent pipes for vault airflow) Of course we had to run a water line from our cistern plumbing out to the outhouse (insulated and buried) and installed a freeze proof drain valve a couple of feet below in order to get a solid siphon on the toilet (for the cold season so we can fully drain it to protect it from freezing) Of course the additional water load will mean that our vault will have to be pumped more frequently, but this is a weekend cabin only so we think that will be a manageable problem. If we make it through next winter successfully I'll update this posting but so far, we are very happy with the vast improvement this brings over the old commode.
