The late Joe Cuba was a master of fusing hybrid sounds, both Latin and Soul, and had the vision to architect a new one called Boogaloo. He headed the Latin soul movement and was lyrically fluent with Spanish and English always sporting an urban attitude. He sang, played congas and earned a reputation putting on swinging, dynamic shows with a unique vibraphone-fronted six member band. He delighted New Yorkers and soon the fever spread across the country. Joe Cuba scored big with the #1 hit song Bang Bang Push Push and ushered in the Latin Soul movement with El Pito (Never Going Back To Georgia). His music was the catalyst of the 'Nuyorican' movement and he will be forever known as El Alcalde Del Barrio , the honorary mayor of Spanish Harlem.
