Real Music Education, Music functions chordally not with note-scales which are travel notes and don't develop your natural ears.
Helps develop natural ears/fingers connections.
Solfeggio is necessary to learn to transpost to other keys.
Great ear training.
Very hot new funky patterns also.
#6 is easy approach to Solfeggio for transposing, Chord Structure studies in Major-Minor Chords, hip funk patterns, great chordal note studies,Chordal Scale, beginning Jazz Improv Patterns.Works great w/Jazz Bass CD&Guide for your Jazz foundation, chord progressions of Standards. Easy to understand, good for what you need to move on from rock&funk into getting a good grasp on chordal notes for Standards and Jazz for soloing.
Solfeggio is rare in educational music, but necessary for music transposing to other keys. It's also a fun book, with many fine lines in it, and easy approach to soloing. Use with other Jazz studies. For more jazz learning: use in this order: Jazz Bass CD & Guide, Elec. Bass Lines No. 3 for your critical interval studies (fav with all bass players), Standards I and II, Pro's Jazz Phrases Bass book & CD, Jazz Improv For Bass bk & CD, and Jazz Improv Soloing DVD Course (music in treble & bass clefs). Jazz is NOT hard to learn if taught correctly, stay away from note-scale teachers as they weren't around in the 1950s improvising jazz playing w/ the legends....and so don't know the real chordal note studies needed to learn to create jazz soloing.....it's not rocket science and easy to understand - music works CHORDALLY.
No you don't have to grow up with Standards to know how to play, don't have to "memorize tune by tune" either. It's chordal progressions, sub-chordal notes in Jazz patterns as the real jazz musicians have always done. This does not take years to learn at all, but weeks or a few months and you can be adept at jazz soloing, and can even use some of the patterns immediately, it's that easy with major-minor-7th chord categories.
