I have always been interested to learn more about the Etsy business model and what it entails. I am a stay at home mom, so having the ability to start up a small business and work from home is something that I have definitely considered. I have also shopped on Etsy and wanted to know more about what starting up an Etsy business entails and how to turn a profit. This book did a nice job giving a brief history of Etsy. This book is geared toward the person who has a serious business model in mind and is ready to expand their shop. While I appreciate the detail that the authors took to outline the importance of being motivated and having a clear idea and goals in mind. I felt that too much time was spent on that. I also found that the chapters were lengthy and provided grand visions rather than more of a "how to." In today's world I think many people look for a quick fix and after reading most of this book, I learned that setting up an Etsy shop may be simple, but having it stand...
Last year I opened up my own little bow business. I started off selling to friends and decided to make a fan page on Facebook. The first six months business took off and I made pretty good money there. I had other bow maker friends who had shops on Etsy. They seemed to be doing great and had a lot of sales. It inspired me to want to do the same, so I went ahead and opened up my shop on Etsy.
My first month on Etsy was great. I had a few friends and family members who bought from my shop to show support. After a few weeks sales weren’t doing so great and I started to get discouraged. I ran promotions, clearance and price slashed, but it just seemed like the sales weren’t there. This book is great because it gives you tips to starting on Etsy and how to run a successful business. I never realized how important a well written item description, photographs and something as simple as tags were in the Etsy world.

I found this to be an extremely informative guide for anybody with an Etsy shop or for anybody thinking about starting one. After reading this guide, you'll start thinking about yourself as a small business owner. This guide focuses on common mistakes and ways to avoid them, how to maximize sales, using tags and keywords appropriately, best ways to package and ship your products, best ways to promote via social media, and how to improve your customer service. You'll also learn ways to connect with the Etsy community. This guide also includes a few Q&A's with real Etsy shop owners where they will talk about their challenges and give tips, etc. A lot of the information is repetitive but it's presented nicely.
