Using this in production environments where we need to monitor DSLR's that are being used to capture video. I don't shoot on DSLR very often, I normally shoot with cameras that take SDI so I was looking for something cheap that works. All of our larger Panasonic Monitors are SDI hence why we need a conversion from consumer connection (HDMI) to broadcast connection (SDI) Black Magic makes a tried and true converter that runs on a battery for about $300. That's the number one option. However, if you want something 1/5 the cost that will work with a DLSR outputting a full HD signal, then this will work.
Beware: If you have an older Canon 5DMII, a Canon T2i, or any other camera that DOES NOT output an HD signal from the mini-HDMI port, this will NOT work. You will get a "no signal detected" message.
In closing, if you cannot plug this in, you will need to go with the Black Magic or Atomos options as they run on a battery and quite frankly if you...
This HDMI to SDI converter worked perfectly from my Canon camcorder HDMI to my Blackmagic ATEM thru SDI cable connected directly to ATEM. Camera put out 1080i and interfaced perfectly with ATEM. I bought 2 and may order more. Update I bought more 2 more for myself and suggested 2 for a school I shoot video for that has a Blackmagic ATEM. They all work perfectly. I went to HDMI at first, but now use only HDMI to SDI and SDI to HDMI. It may be more expensive to go that way, but the trade off in reliability at any length is worth any additional cost.
Doesn't actually run at 1080p, 60Hz, per the description. Was hoping to use this to attach a 5th HDMI device to a BlackMagic ATEM, but no luck. Sending them back.
